CHRISTMAS PARTY!!!

Ok this is pretty last minute but we are going to have a Christmas get together THIS FRIDAY in the ART BUILDING GALLERY. I hope everyone gets a chance to stop by. We will be starting at around 6 and it will end whenever everyone is gone :)

We will (maybe) we watching a christmas movie (Elf), and doing a FOUND gift exchange. This gift shouldn't cost a dime, just something that you found. :) Also Kappa Pi will be providing Pizza and a few drinks, but I hope everyone will bring some good junk food if they can. :) So bring a dish if you want, but you don't have to... and bring a found gift so you can participate in the gift exchange!

I'm so excited, and even though this is really last minute I hope everyone has time to stop in and take a break from stressful finals time.

See you guys Friday!!!

(( Darrell, I know you love that painting... ))

Road Trip!

Here is a cool opportunity for all of us to get involved in!

I copied this from the gcva blog:

Road Trip*

So, who's ready for finals?

Who's already anticipating a break from finals? Now we're talking! On
Sunday, Dec. 12, GCVA will be hosting a trip to Cincinnati. We're going to make a day of it, see some great art and have some fun rounding out what has been a long (although fruitful) semester. Plans include:
  • A visit to the Taft Museum, which will be hosting an exhibit of Goya's Los Caprichos prints (good stuff).
  • A visit to the Contemporary Art Center to see the exhibit of contemporary art entitled Where Do We Go From Here? Selections from the Jumex Collection. I have already blogged about my excitement about this exhibithere.
  • A trip to Jungle Jim's International Market and/or IKEA.
We're meeting at the department next Sunday at 9:30 am. We'll cover transportation; just bring some money for food and/or shopping. Bring your notes or flashcards to study on the ride if you need to, but don't miss out on this event.

If you'd like to attend, we'll need to know a head-count beforehand so that we can plan for it (and so that I can get certified to drive the GC van if I need to).
Either comment here with your name or email me at jratlif0@georgetowncollege.edu by Monday, Dec. 6 to let me know if you are interested in coming. Spread the word to SODAH members.
*"Road trip" just sounds better than "field trip."

Ice House Show

On Tuesday November 16th there will an art opening at the Ice House Gallery in Georgetown (114 South Water St.)
Here is the information I received about the event:
Charles Gregory: Landscapes and Paint Knife Selections. There will be live music and light refreshment. Dress warmly and come celebrate with us the art of Charles Gregory! This opening will kick off our Holiday 30% off sale including jewelry.  The sale will last from November 16, 2010 until January 8, 2011!  (The sale does not include small reproductions.) For more info please call (859)312-1676.  Everyone is invited and bring a friend!

I'm sure this would be considered NEXUS credit for anyone who wants it. Just double check with one of your professors to make sure.

Hope you guys will come out. It's a really interesting space, but there isn't heating in the building so like it says above you will want to bundle up. :)

And remember there will be a meeting this Thursday the 11th at noon in room 116 of the art building. :)

Meeting...

I'm looking at having our  next meeting Thursday November 11th at noon in room 116. I hope this day will be better for people, but the date might change. So watch out for updates on The White Board. :)

Some topics that we will discuss are:

  • A possible 'mini day trip' to the Speed Art Museum . I hope some of us can car pool up there and maybe stop and have dinner just as a chance to get to know each other and see some art.
  • The UK open... there will be a lot to see, including an iron pour demo.
  • As always I want to brainstorm some events that you all would be interested in having

If you have any questions about anything please contact one of us. If you are unable to make it to the meeting please check the blog the 12th and notes from the meeting will be posted.

**Ooh and those who haven't paid their dues need to do so asap. Thanks

And the Winner is....

MEGAN SAUTER!!! She's the winner of our pumpkin carving contest, and will be getting a $25 gift card to O'Charlie's.

The event went great! I thought we had a really good time. A lot of people stopped over and got tattoos, bought a button, carved pumpkins, and got some free food.

I look forward to having more events now since we had such great attendance for this one.

I want to thank everyone for stopping over and hanging out for a bit. And a special thanks to those who helped out in anyway. :)

Our next meeting will be soon hopefully... I think we are going to try Thursdays at noon instead of Tuesdays. But we shall see...

Have a great weekend everybody!

Pumpkin Carving

OK this Thursday from 11am to 1 pm sod+a+h will will be hosting a pumpkin carving contest. The pumpkins will be $3 each and the winner with get a $25 gift card to O'Charlies. (Our art professors will be judging the contest.) The carved pumpkins that are not wanted will be donated to local nursing homes and care facilities.

We will be in the Quad... so hopefully this will get some peoples attention.

Some of the art majors will be dressed as their favorite Alice in Wonderland character, so we hope everyone will show up in costume. ** which doesn't have to be Alice themed... but it would be awesome if it was.

We will be having a cook out for lunch, hamburgers and hot dogs will be served on a first come first serve basis. So free lunch!

Also Daniel Graham will be doing silkscreen tattoos as well... these will be $1.

I hope everyone will take the time to come participate! See you Thursday :)

I want to thank everyone who took the time to come to our last meeting. If
you couldn't make it here is some of what we went
over:

During the meeting we talked about a Pumpkin Carving contest in the quad on the 28th from 11am-1pm. Hopefully we can
serve food. That evening we are going to go to Daniel's and Darrell's show at UK: Bookends/Lap Toint Exhibition. It starts at 5... so everyone needs to come out and show support for our professors.

The "Show it" student art exhibition: bring work for juror on Nov. 23rd from 9am- 4:30pm. You can pick up your unaccepted
works by Dec. 1st. The show is from Nov. 29th through Dec. 9th. And all
works from the show should be picked up on
Dec. 10th.

We all need to bring in some shirts for printing. Daniel is going to silkscreen us some cool shirts to sell to raise money for
sod+a+h.

If you have any questions, or ideas please contact me. kstampe0.
thanks!

Our next meeting will be Tuesday October 19th in the Art Building at noon. I know this time doesn't work for everyone, but if you get in touch with me I can email you the notes from the meeting so you can be caught up on what you missed.

I hope you guys will take the time to attend so we can brainstorm some new event ideas, and finalize the plans for an event we are planning for the end of October.

I'm so excited to see the show on Friday (from 5-7 in the Gallery... yes it's a CEP so come). I really hope everyone can make it. There will be some really great artist talks and the chance to see some really great work.

Everyone should also take the time to thank Darrell, Daniel, and Laura [If I left out some one I'm sorry... but thanks to you too :)] for working so hard to put this show together... it looks great, and I know they have been putting in a lot of effort to get it up.

Banner

I want to thank everyone who helped paint the songfest banner for SODAH. A special thanks so Megan, Devon, and Matt who stayed late to work on it, and put in more than they had to to get the banner finished.

It looks great! I love all the animal prints and colors that you guys used.

Thanks again!

Ok as of right now there are only 5 or 6 people going on the trip. So it could go either way... go or not. We need more people. The more that go the more affordable it will be for everyone. So if you're interested in going with us to Chicago over fall break contact me (kstampe0) or Daniel asap.

Thanks

Getting Started

The semester is about to start and we have a lot of stuff to plan, and a lot of ideas for what we are going to do this fall.

Some ideas are:
A trip to Chicago over fall break, stopping at a few places on the way and seeing lots of art,
a few different themed parties in the Gallery,
and some student art shows through out the semester.

This blog is to keep everyone updated on what we are planning, what's going on, and how to get involved in Kappa Pi.
